Celebration of life for Mrs. Mable Allen-Gordon will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Spring Hill AME Zion Church, Monroe. Rev. Rosanna Brannon, pastor. Interment, church cemetery. Visitation TUESDAY 12:00 - 8:00 p.m. with family hour 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Family and friends are asked to assemble 10:00 a.m. at 209 Perry St., Monroe. Young-Levett Funeral Home MONROE CHAPEL, 770-267-2642.∼Mable Simmons Gordon was born on November 24, 1924 to the parentage of Willie and Estella Bell Simmons. She was one of thirteen children. Maudie, Willie, Nathaniel, Edith, Dorothy, Rufus, Nadine, and Ethel have preceded her in death. She received her early education in Walton County. At an early age, she joined the Spring Hill AME Zion Church and married the late Mr. J. Nathan Allen. They enjoyed a wonderful life together in Chicago until his passing.
Mable continued to reside in Chicago, and in her later years she united with Mr. Gus Gordon. After his passing, Mable decided to return home to be close to her family. Upon her return, she became an active member of her home church, Spring Hill. She served on the Deaconess Board, and was the oldest living member of the congregation.
Mable leaves to cherish her memory, four sisters: Alice Simmons Morrow of Bethlehem; Betty Simmons Skrine (Lucius) of Covington; Estella Simmons Bell (Johnny) of Monroe; and Margie Simmons Wimberly of Macon; and three sisters-in-law. She also lives in the hearts of her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 11 AM Spring Hill AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Roseanna Brannon, presiding and the Rev. Rodney A. Lackey, Eulogist.
