On July 1, 1950 she was married to Donald W. Berner in Beaverton. He survives her. Jean enjoyed being a homemaker all of her life and was a talented bowler in her younger years. She was well versed in politics and enjoyed sewing, gardening, and taking care of her “rescued” cats. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Midland.
Surviving besides her husband Don are her three daughters, Teresa Sheltrown and her husband Joel of West Branch; Joni Berner and her husband Edwin Hemwall of Villanova, PA; and Peggy Berner of Royal Oak; five grandchildren, Alison Sheltrown of Long Island, N.Y.; Nick Sheltrown and his wife Patti of Grand Rapids; Donald Sheltrown and his wife Karolina Zakonek of West Branch; Haley Hemwall of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and James Hemwall of Philadelphia, PA; two great-grandchildren, Eden and Isaiah Sheltrown. . Also surviving is her brother, Calvin Bergman of Beaverton; two brothers-in-law, Dallas Mowery and Martin Berner and her two sisters-in-law, Irene Berner and Belva Govitz. In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters, William, Thomas and David Bergman, Anne Mowery, Marjorie Arehart and Eleanor Tucker.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, February, 17, 2014 from the United Church of Christ, 4100 Chestnut Hill Dr. in Midland. Rev. Roger Pancost will officiate. Jean’s family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
