R.L. Sweem, 89, a lifetime resident of Hamilton, passed away at his home on January 25, 2017, in Hamilton.

R.L. was born on December 27, 1927, in Breckenridge, Mo., to David A. and Della M. (Musser) Sweem. He honorably served his country in the Army during World War II. He had retired as a truck driver from Farmers Rock and Lime Quarry which later was owned by and became Trager Quarry. After retirement, R.L. worked numerous years for Highland Cemetery, Hamilton, and was still working and mowing all the way to the age of 88. He greatly enjoyed working and being outdoors.

R.L. was a member of the Hamilton American Legion Post #285.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers; and 1 sister.

R.L. married his wife, Alberta Peters on March 27, 1956, in Hamilton, and they had just celebrated 60 years together. She survives of the home.

Additional survivors: Daughter-Becky James, Hamilton; Son-Randy (Flo) Sweem, Hamilton; Brothers-David Sweem, Jr., and Jerry (Carol) Sweem, both of Hamilton; Sister-Doris Lamb, Washington; 3 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation was entrusted to Bram Funeral Home, Hamilton.
