One of nine children of Thomas Heffernan and Ellen Dugan Heffernan, Michael Heffernan was born about 1854 in Glenough Lower, Tipperary, Ireland. He came to America in 1864 (the year his father died) as a child and grew up in Madison County, New York. Michael is probably buried in Saint James Catholic Cemetery in Cazenovia. The Heffernans are descended from Eneas Heffernan (6th century), a Bishop of Emly, and from later Heffernans who were Knights of Malta. I hope someone will add his photo to this site.
