REDKEY, Ind.--Elvin D. McCowan, 70,508 W. High St., died Wednesday in Ball Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Monterey, Tenn. He retired in 1978 from Kerr Glass Co. in Dunkirk after 28 years of employment. He was a member of Local 121 of the Glass Blowers Association.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Elsie Bilbrey McCowan; two daughters, Ima Jean (Mrs. Francis) Simons, and Barbara Eileen (Mrs. Jeffrey) Huber, both of Redkey; three sons, Donald C. McCowan, Daniel L. McCowan, and Lawrence (Poncho) McCowan, all of Redkey; a brother, Jerry McCowan, Livingston, Tenn.; five sisters, Callie Rae Johnson, Dolly (Mrs. Fred) Sampley and Dorothy (Mrs. Tommy) Walker, all of Dunkirk, and Berthie Buckner and Ollie (Mrs. Eskew) Harris, both of Monterey, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Freewill Baptist Church, near Dunkirk, with Rev. Oliver McCowan officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Calling at the Redkey chapel of Jones Mortuary is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
