Mr. Granville Thomas Denning, 81, of Hwy 242 S Dunn died Tuesday evening December 13, 2016 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Granville was born January 31, 1935 in Johnston Co. son of the late Bertis Lee Denning and Georgia Mae Maynard Denning and was also preceded in death by his sons, Thomas Houston Denning and Gary Wayne Denning, sisters, Edna Earl Denning Cashwell, Eva Hilda Denning Cashwell and Georgia Matilda Denning McConnell, brothers, Carl Casteen Denning, Bertis Edward Denning and Willie Houston Denning and brother-in-law, Billy Best.

Granville was a lifelong member and deacon of Smyrna Original Free Will Baptist Church and a member of the Meadow Ruritan Club. He had worked for Nu Home Builders in Dunn and retired from the former Chicopee in Benson.

A funeral service will be held 2p.m. Friday, December 16, 2016 at Smyrna Original Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Whitman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Granville is survived by his wife of 61 years Betty “Peggy” Tyner Denning. son, Larry Lee Denning of the home, sister, Merdie Ruth Denning Best of Mt. Olive, grandchildren, Christopher Garrett Denning and Richard Lee Denning and wife Jessica Rae Denning and great grandchildren, Shyanne, Kenneth-Wayne, Reese and Eleanor Denning.

The family will receive friends 6-8p.m. Thursday at the Skinner & Smith Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
