Dec. 22, 1882 Local

MR. HARDY OSTEEN of Taylorsville died Monday 19th (17th), from injuries received by a fall from a wagon some ten days since. Mr. Osteen was a thrifty citizen and a clever man, leaves a family and many friends to mourn his sad and untimely death.

(Southern Roots Note): "Verification of the tombstone reads his death date as December 17th. Either the tombstone or the obituary is incorrect. The Tate County newspaper obituary states his death as Monday, December 19th. December 19th, 1882 was on a Tuesday, so Monday was the 18th. If he died on December 17th, then this was a Sunday."
