Mary Ann "Mollie" Osteen was the daughter of Hardy R. Osteen and Elizabeth Lunsford. Her maternal grandfather was William Lunsford of Lauderdale County, Tennessee.

She and William Thomas James were married 30-Nov-1872 in DeSoto County, Mississippi. At the time of the 1880 census of Tate County, MS, Mollie and her husband, William, along with their daughters, were living in the household with Mollie's maternal aunt, Rachel Lunsford and husband, Thomas Harrison.

They had three daughters together; Naomi Loyd James (1877), Elizabeth James (1880) and Minnie L. James (1882), all born in Mississippi. After the birth of Minnie, the family moved to Lamar County, Texas, where her husband died shortly afterwards in 1885. By 1900, Mollie and her youngest daughter, Minnie, were living in the household with Mollie's brother, Ronzi (Alonzo) Osteen, Lamar County, TX, east of Bee Bayou. By 1910, Mollie was listed as giving birth to 7 children with only 1 living (Lora/Loyd). Minnie James Phillips died in 1909, likely during or after the birth of her daughter, Mary C. Phillips.

This grave may be unmarked. At the time of her death, she was living with her daughter, Mrs. N. L. (Lora) Hightower at 315 Pecan, Dallas, TX.
