Bernice Burkhardt Gross, of Milton, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006 at Thornton Terrace Health Campus, Hanover.

She was born on Feb. 14, 1914, in Trimble County to Frederick and Ida Holderfield Burkhardt.

She was married on Dec. 17, 1932 to George Gross who preceded her in death.

She enjoyed helping with farm work, raising a garden and baking for her family. She was a member of the Mt. Byrd Christian Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Watson, Madison, and Georgia Long and Dorothy Hamilton, both of Milton; three sons, Doug, Bernie and Bob Gross, all of Milton; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Inez Varble, Ester Dudley, Frances Shott and Agnes Burkhardt; five brothers, James, Kenneth W., Thomas, Snyder and Emerson Burkhardt.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at the Mt. Byrd Christian Church with burial to follow in Moffett Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the service at the church.

Expressions of sympathy may go to the Mt. Byrd Christian Church Building Fund. The Wood-Oakley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
