Nellie Pruitt Howard
Roy William Howard, 87, of Landis, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016. He was born March 31, 1929 in Cobb County, Ga., a son of the late Clarence Paul Howard and Nellie Pruitt Howard. Roy was a retired Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force and the Air National Guard where he served from 1952 -1984. He then went to work at Carpenter Industries in Concord for 20 plus years as a parts counter salesman and later became the museum curator. He retired in 2008 due to a stroke. Roy was a talented and smart man. He had a great sense of humor and always had a joke to tell. He enjoyed carving peach seeds and wood and playing the harmonica. Roy also enjoyed working on and restoring old cars which included a ‘36 Ford Coupe and a ‘64 Amphibious Car.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Blondie Holbrook Howard; brothers Carl and Clay Howard; and sisters Martha Anderson and Sarah Frey. Roy is survived by daughter Joy H. Kirk (Wesley) of Kannapolis; son Randall W. Howard of Landis; grandsons, Joshua W. Kirk (Shiloh) and Wyatt Howard; granddaughter Candace E. Kirk; great-granddaughters Keyana and Caelan Kirk; and brother Julian “Teeny” Howard. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to Caremoor Retirement Center, Hospice, Judy Futrell-Holcombe and Stella Slagowski for their tireless care and love for Mr. Howard.
