He served in the Army for 4 years and was retired from Dupont after 36 years. He was a lifelong member of the Fairfield First Aid and the fire department. He was a member of the Irish Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years Ethel Sorrells Thorne; one son Dennis M. Thorne; one daughter Amy Thorne Stapleton; 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral was conducted Friday, Nov 4 at Bolling Grose and Lotts Funeral Chapel by Pastor Wayne Dixon. Burial followed at Concord Church of the Brethren Cemetery
