Maggie (Oney) Crigger

It is with much sadness in my heart that I will try to write the obituary of my dear loving mother, Maggie (Oney) Crigger. She was born March 13, 1886, making her stay here on earth 75 years, 1 month and 8 days. She deceased this life April 21, 1961. She was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Nelson) Oney and was united in marriage to W. A. Crigger who preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons, Lee of Canada and Frank of Meta, Kentucky. She is also survived by four daughters, Mrs. Ethel Smith, Mrs. Agnes Blackburn and Mrs. Gladus Thacker all of Canada, Ky., and Mrs. Elzie Smith of Goody, Kentucky.

One son and one daughter preceded her in death, Henry and Juanita.

She also leaves 32 grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Sarah Stanley and Mrs. Mary Nelson, both of Williamson, W. Va.; Dewey and W. M. Oney, both of Harrisonville, N. C.; and Charles and Berlin Oney, both of Ashland, Kentucky.

Mother joined the Old Regular Baptist Church and was baptized the second Sunday in September 1943 by the hands of Elder Jonah Bevins and placed her membership at the Dix Fork Church where she remained a faithful member until God called her away. I want to say to the children you will have to prepare in this life, for as death finds us, so will the judgment receive us. So to all of you, begin today to lay up treasures in heaven where your loved ones have gone to wait for you.

Mother dear, we long to see you, in your robe and crown so bright. We will pray for God to guide us and to lead us by His shining light. I hope by God’s sweet mercy we will meet her some sweet day.
