Mr. Zerfas owned and operated Jay County's Culligan Soft Water from 1950-1959, and the Culligan Soft Water in White and Carroll Counties from 1960 until retiring in 1970.
He was a 1930 graduate of Martinsville High School, and also attended Purdue University.
He was born August 25, 1912, in Frankfort, to Ralph Morris and Ruby V. Baird Zerfas. He married Madge Elaine Stine in Lafayette on June 20, 1937, and she preceded him in death on August 9, 1981.
Surviving are a son, Donald of Las Vegas; a daughter, Mrs. Doug (Elaine) Matthews of Lafayette; two sisters, Helen Rising of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Hilda Lynch of Granada Hills, California; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Burial in Bunnell Cemetery, Frankfort.
