Dwight was born in Lucas, IA. on August 11th 1921 the son of Edwin & Vera (Cunningham) Allen.
He was raised on the family farm and lived through the Great Depression.
Dwight joined the Marines during World War II and served his country in battle, at Guadalcanal.
Upon his return to the States, he was assigned to duty at Hingham, MA where he met and married Lillian Van Der Zee.
In 1955, the Allens moved to Montpelier, Vt. and in 1969, to Burlington, Vt.
Dwight remained in Burlington, Vt. until 2016 and spent five great years at Cathedral Square Assisted Living, before moving to Baptist Health Nursing Home in Scotia, N.Y.
Dwight worked in the plumbing and heating business, with a long career at Sondik of Vermont, until his retirement.
He enjoyed woodworking and the company of friends and family.
He was active in church affairs and was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge in Montpelier, Vt. and the North Avenue Alliance Church in Burlington, Vt.
Dwight was predeceased by Lillian (Van Der Zee) Allen in 2006.
