MRS. EDWIN ALLEN

Vera Cunningham, oldest daughter of G. A. and Clara Cunningham, was born in Warren Co., Iowa, March 14, 1899. She grew to womanhood on the home place near Lucas, where she attended high school, graduating with the class of 1918. Vera was always a kind and loving child.

She was converted under the ministry of Rev. Parkins, was baptized and taken into the Methodist Episcopal church April 5, 1924. She loved her Lord dearly, and it was always in her plans to be in the house of her God for worship.

After graduating from the Lucas high school, Vera attended college at Drake University in Des Moines, taking special training in primary work, as it was her desire to be an efficient teacher. After returning from college she taught school up until June 24, 1920, when she was united in marriage to Edwin Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Allen of Lucas.

Edwin and Vera, as they were well known by all their friends, started a happy home near Lucas on the Will Allen farm. To this happy union two dear little boys were born, Dwight Leorne, almost three years old, and Delbert Jean, aged two and one half hours at the time of his death July 1st, 1924.

All was done for both mother and child that kind, loving hands and medical skill could do, but God had need of these beautiful flowers in his garden, as we read in Solomon 6:2 "My beloved is gone down into His garden to gather lilies."

Vera departed this life July 11, 1924, at her home, aged 25 years, 3 months and 27 days. She leaves to mourn their loss her husband, little son, father and mother, two brothers, one sister and a grandmother, besides many other relatives and friends, all of whom will sorely miss her.

Funeral services were held at the M. E. church in Lucas at 2 o'clock on Sunday afternoon, June 13, conducted by Revs. Mr. and Mrs. Wolfe, of Woodburn. Interment was made in the Chariton cemetery.
