Josephine Clune, aged 71, a former resident of Burkettsville, died at the
home of her son-in-law Jack Shaefer of Dayton, O., on Friday morning,
November 11 at 6:00 o'clock. Death was due to heart trouble from which she
was suffering for the last seven months. For the past four or five months,
Mrs. Clune has made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Schaefer of Dayton. The
deceased was born at Saint Mary's, Ohio and was united in marriage to
Bernard Clune of St. Sebastian on June 12, 1888. To this happy union sixteen
children were born. She spent the greater part of her life in the vicinity
of Burkettsville and is well known among her many friends in this community.
Mrs. Clune was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and a member of the
Christian Mother's Society of the Burkettsville parish. She died well
fortified with the last Sacrament of the church of her faith. Surviving to
mourn her loss are the following children: Ben Clune of Blytheville,
Arkansas; Joseph Clune of Charlestown, Mass.; Frank Clune of Paragould,
Ark.; Anthony Clune of Burkesville,; Alex Clune of North Star;, Mrs. Jack
Schaefer, Mrs. Ferd Winhoven, Al Clune, Mrs. Al Landis, Henry Clune and Mrs.
Ben Woeste all of Dayton; Mrs. Leo Tumbusch of St. Henry; Mrs. Charles
Keller of Ft. Recovery and Mrs. Rose Schwieterman of Guadalupe. Her husband
preceded in death in April 1938. Two children also preceded her in death.
Two brothers and fours sisters and 18 grandchildren survive to mourn her
loss. Funeral services were held on Monday morning, November 21, at 8:30
o'clock in St. Bernard's church Burkettsville, with Rev. Curren of St.
Charles Seminary officiating at requiem High Mass. Burial was made in the
church cemetery at Burkettsville.
