Ethel L. Wingate

Was born Sept. 5, 1915, at Pretty Prairie, Kansas and died April 2, 2004, at the Kingman Community Hospital. She was the daughter of Joseph B. and Clara Maude White Barton.

A lifetime resident of the Pretty Prairie and Varner communities, she was a retired dietitian for the Pretty Prairie Grade School.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Rebeka's Lodge and the EHU, all of Pretty Prairie.

On Sept. 23, 1934, she married Tom Wingate at Pretty Prairie. Other survivors include two sons, Garold and his wife Diane; Lyle and his wife Anita; daughter Jeanene Lemon and her husband Gary; a sister, Viola Kukla; grandchildren Tom, Tim, Steve, Mike, Stephanie, Jason, Scott, Jeff, Todd and Mike; and great-grandchildren Derek, Laura, Julie, Isabelle and Olivia. She was preceded in death by brothers Clarence and Charlie Roots and Lawrence Barton.

Memorials may be made with the Pretty Prairie United Methodist Church or the Prairie Sunset Home.
