Daughter of Roy Franklin Gilbert Sr and Jennie Belle Olomon. She was married on 18 Apr 1942 in Olds Monroe, MO to Doris Burl Beckham. They had three children: (1) Glen Lloyd Beckham born 10 Nov 1943 in Elk Prarie Twsp, Jefferson Co, IL who married Betty Rene Weasel; (2)Brenda Louise Beckham born 3 Apr 1948 in Rt 1, Bonnie, Jefferson Co, IL who married Albert William Arthur Hampton; ane (3) Carl Doris Beckham born 21 Jul 1951 in Elk Prarie Twsp, Jefferson Co, IL who married Susan Ann Weasel.

MELVA LOUISE GILBERT BECKHAM

Melva Louise Gilbert Beckham was born September 17, 1920 to Roy and Jennie Olomon Gilbert. She married Doris Beckham, son of Frank and Lillie Martin Beckham. Doris was a guard at ammunition plant at Crab Orchard and worked at the Mt Veronon Car Shops, then drove a schoold bus for Waltonville for 12 years. Melva enjoys crocheting, embroidery, painting, letter writing and poetry. She had been teacher of the beginner's class at the Elk Prairie Christian Church. She enjoys helping with their nine grandchildren, also helping care for mother-in-law who spent over 19 months in a wheelchair. Lillie died September 23, 1977.

The Beckham's children were: Glen Lloyd, November 10, 1943; Brenda Louise, April 3, 1948; Carl Doris, July 21, 1951. Glen married Betty Weasel near Carmi. He served in the National Guard. Then he worked at General Radiator in Mt Vernon as a draftsman and cost estimator. Betty worked at Page's Store, then at Western Union. They have four children: Brent Ashley, January 14, 1967; Gregory Lloyd, January 13, 1968; Michelle Renee, July 9, 1973; and Chad Travis, August 2, 1976.

Brenda married Albert Hampton of Nashville, Illinois. They lived there and both worked at Ashley. They had Tonya Machelle on May 23, 1970, Casey Brian on September 7, 1972. In March 1973, they moved to Waltonville. Albert went to work for General Tire in Mt Vernon. Carl married Susan Weasel, Betty's sister. He worked for Mt Vernon Foam Company and Dowzer Electirc. They becam Amway dealers and sold fire alarms. She worked at Western Union. They had Corey Carl on September 19, 1971; Tracey Suzanne on September 29, 1973; and Jeremey Shane, February 1, 1976.

MELVA BECKHAM

MT. VERNON — Melva L. Beckham, 90, of Bonnie, passed away at 3:20 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at Nature Trail Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.

She was born Friday, Sept. 17, 1920, in Waltonville, to Roy Franklin Gilbert Sr. and Jennie (Olomon) Gilbert.

She married Doris B. Beckham in Old Monroe, Mo., on April 18, 1942, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 12, 1986.

Melva accepted the Lord at age nine and walked faithfully with him until her death. She was a homemaker and member of Elk Prairie Christian Church, was very active in community organizations and was also well known for her poetry, being a Christian witness and her love for everyone.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Brother David Terrell officiating. Interment will follow at South Hickory Hill Cemetery in Jefferson County.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Melva is survived by two sons, Glen Lloyd Beckham and wife Betty of Mt. Vernon and Carl Doris Beckham and wife Susan of Commerce, Ga.; a daughter, Brenda Hampton and husband Albert of Bonnie; 14 grandchildren, Brent Beckham and wife Angie, Greg Beckham and wife Terri, Michelle Beck and husband Steve, Chad Beckham and wife Brandi, Corey Beckham and wife Marsha, Tracey Crawford, Jeremey Beckham, Jeffrey Beckham and wife Shea, Timothey Beckham and wife Suzanne, Memorey Beckham and husband Caleb, Tonya Blackwell and husband Skylynn, Casey Hampton and partner Jeffry Stanton, Jonathan Hampton and wife Wendy and Amanda Bigley and husband Ryan; three sisters, Gladys Newell of Cornelia, Ga., Freida Schmidt and husband Maurice of Woodlawn and Marjorie Peterson and husband Jim of Clinton; 20 great-grandchildren and two more expected soon, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Vechal and Roy Frank Gilbert preceded her in death.
