Daughter's Grief Allayed in Mother's Demise
Because Final Greeting Heard
(Special Staff Correspondence)
ONTARIO, Feb. 19. "How did you like that mama and papa?"
These words, wafted over the air via radio a distance of some 1500 miles from Portland, Ore., Tuesday night, by Mrs. Ralph W. Nicholson brought a thrill to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Kirkpatrick at their home here at 428 East F Street, and they were the last words of the daughter to be heard by the mother, for 24 hours later, almost to the minute. Mrs. Kirkpatrick suddenly succumbed to a heart attack.
Mrs. Nicholson is a native daughter of Ontario, where she has hosts of friends and where as Miss Florence Kirkpatrick, she was widely known for her unusual ability as a whistling soloist. It was following the rendition of a group of whistling numbers over the radio, accompanied on the piano by Mr. Nicholson at Portland, her present home, that the young woman sent the cherry greeting over the air to her parents here and it will be a source of considerable satisfaction to the daughter and to relatives and friends of family that the mother was accorded the opportunity of hearing her youngest child before her passing.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kirkpatrick, who was a well known Ontario pioneer and prominent in local church, lodge and club circles are to be held Monday morning at 10 o'clock at Draper's chapel with Dr. Charles F. Seitter, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiating, assisted by the Rev. C. V. Cowen of Pasadena.
Interment will be in Bellevue cemetery.
