Gordon M. Hard, 69, Dies; Arlington Town Official
ARLINGTON - Gordon M. Hard, 69, town treasurer for 22 years, former town representative and a town selectman for seven years during his lifetime residence here, died at Putnam Memorial Hospital Sunday night. He had been a patient there for 10 days.
Mr. Hard also served as a justice of the peace for six years and was a former cemetery commissioner.
The son of Seymour and Alice (Marshall) Hard, he was born in East Arlington Aug 5, 1900. He was a self-employed house painter and also worked for Roy Crofut.
A member of the Masonic Order, he belonged to Red Mountain Lodge 63 F&AM and was a past master of that lodge. He also was a member of Adoniran 18, RAM, of Manchester and a communicant of St. James Episcopal Church.
Survivors are his wife, the former Dorothy Crofut; two sons, David Hard of Barre and Jeffrey Hard of Burlington; four daughters, Mrs. Jean Campbell of Bennington, Mrs. Alice Hartigan of Stowe, Mrs. Priscilla Nacy of Upper Darby, Pa., and Mrs. Sara Grey of Janesville, Wis.; one brother, Harvey Hard of Arlington; one sister, Mrs. Helen Fitts of Rouses Point, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; two great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 pm in St. James Episcopal Church with the Rev. Clement C. Belcher, rector, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Calling hours at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Arlington are Tuesday afternoon and evening. Masonic services will be held at 8 Tuesday night.
Should friends desire, contributions in his memory may be made to the Arlington Ambulance Service through the office of the County National Bank in Arlington.
