A message received here Sunday night told of the sudden death of John Emory Slaven at his home in Richmond Sunday, May 30 at 9:30 p. m. the result of a heart attack. Mr. Slaven, a former resident of Monterey, was born Feb. 19, 1896, the son of Mrs. Maude V. Slaven of Wilmington, Del., and the late Harry F. Slaven, and had been a resident of Richmond for the past ten years. He was born and reared at Monterey and was a graduate of Monterey High School and Dunsmore Business College, Staun ton. Following his graduation from Dunsmore, he was made cashier of the bank at Doe Hill. He is survived by his mother; his widow, the former Miss Genoa Swecker of Crabbottom; one sister, Mrs. J. P. Lunsford of Wilmington, Del.; three brothers, Paul Slaven, Ferrum, Va., H. Bruce of Harrisonburg, Forest Slaven of Gallipolis, Ohio, and a large number of relatives here. Funeral services and burial were held in Richmond on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 o’clock.
