JOHN W. BURKS, 70, DIES;
SERVICES HELD AT MT. ZION
Final rites were held at the Mt. Zion Church Saturday for John William Burks of Ulman. Mr. Burks
died of a heart attack last Wednesday, August 20, just 10 days before his 71st birthday.
Mr. Burks was born near Tuscumbia on August 30, 1887, the son of William Hasten and Mary Agnes Burks. On Nov. 19, 1908, he was married to Georgia Macie Fancher.They were the parents of nine children.
Mrs. Burks passed away Jan. 10,1953.
Early in life Mr. Burks joined the Christian Church at Capps.
He is survived by three sons; Austin of Jefferson City, Hasten of Sikeston and Malachi of Kansas City; four daughters; Pearl Murray of Kansas City, Jewel Long of
Henley, Fern Huddleston of LaMonte, and Virginia Wilson of
Crocker; two brothers; Robert and Arthur of Tuscumbia; five
sisters; Emma Arnold of Parkville, Effie Abbett of Iberia andd Ida Parkhurst, Mary Eichoff and Grace Hurd of Jefferson City; 30 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Mark Sooter conducted the funeral services at 2 p. m. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of the Hedges Funeral Homes of Iberia.
