Vada M. Shanklin, 81 of Hobbs passed away Thursday, May 26, 2016. A memorial service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Taylor Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Andrew Herbert officiating.

She was born to Carl F. Alston and Nora L Cave on Dec. 2, 1934 in Sweetwater, Texas, where she grew up and attended school. She married Felix J. Blair and moved to Odessa, Texas after his tour in the U.S. Army. After two divorces she married Harry Shanklin who preceded her in death.

While in Lamesa, she worked as a nursing assistant to Dr. Staker. She raised two kids and did all the things mothers do to support her kids. She loved to square dance and would travel to many dances around the country. She was a great seamstress. She made her square dance dresses and the suits her partner wore to the dances. She became a stepmother to her husbands' kids and grandchildren. She also worked at Lea Regional Medical Center in Central Supply. Since her retirement, she loved to play card games multiple times a week with her friends. She was an avid reader.

She attended Taylor Memorial Baptist Church in Hobbs. Her love for God, family and friends was prominent. To support the church's to send shoe boxes filled with supplies, she individually wrapped bottom and tops of approximately 4,000 boxes through the years.

She is survived by one son, Felix "Tony" Blair of Shalimar, Fla.; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, five brothers and seven sisters.

Services are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home, Hobbs.
