Obit for John A. (Al) Morice

John Allan (Al) Morice, 82-year-old longtime Bonners Ferry resident, passed away at the local hospital, February 4 following a lingering illness.
He was born in Grey county, Ontario, Canada, on February 4, 1887, the son of John {James} and Charlotte H. {B.} Morice.
He grew up and received his education in Ontario and Saskatchewan, and at 18 years of age moved to Boundary county where he engaged in logging. On March 8, 1905, he married Mae Violet Browning at Naples.
Following his marriage he continued in woodwork and on Dec 6, 1920, became a naturalized United States citizen. On Nov. 12, 1930 he married Martha A. Mathews at Bonners Ferry.
He retired from active work in 1955 but continued to be an active person, engaging in his favorite hobbies of vegetable and flower gardening as well as raising various kinds of fruit and berries. He made his home on the Northside until two years ago when he entered the community restorium. He was preceded in death by his wife on Feb. 12, 1962. He was a member of the United Methodist church and the Bonners Ferry I.O.O.F. lodge.
Survivors include three sons, Donald, Bonners Ferry, Mathew, Moses Lake, Wash., and John, Spokane; four daughter, Mrs. Annabelle Finley, Kettle Falls, Wash., Mrs. Charlotte Hagen, Falls Church, Va., Mrs. Violet Best, Spokane, and Mrs. Marion Dupuis, San Francisco; two brothers, Willam and Mel, both of Swift Current, Saskatchewan; three sisters, Mrs. Isabella Powell, Swift Current, Mrs. Charlotte Fetterley, Nelson, B.C., Miss Barbara Morice, Swift Current; also 21 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted February 8 at Hillcrest Memorial chapel, with Rev. Darrel Iwerks officiating. Interment, directed by Hillcrest chapel was in Grandview cemetery. The I.O.O.F. lodge also officiated at Hillcrest chapel.
Organist was Mrs. Arthur Campbell, and vocalist, Mrs. Herbert Thornton.
Pallbearers, all members of the I.O.O.F. lodge, were Dave Tritt, Wayne Cox, Bill Blume, James Funkhouser, Edward Bohlman.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Worked in B.C., homesteaded near Red Deer, Alberta, and lived in Stevens County, WA, with Mae; moved to Naples, ID, in 1910. Was known as JA or Allan. Lived near Moyie Springs when married to Martha; moved into Bonners in 1959. Son John went by Archie, sister Charlotte by Lottie.
