Graveside service for Mathew "Mat" Allan Morice is planned for 1 p.m. today at Pioneer Memorial Gardens in Moses Lake. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at the Free Methodist Church.
Kayser's Chapel of Memories, Moses Lake, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Morice died Friday at age 60.
He was born and raised in the Bonners Ferry and Moyie Springs, Idaho, area. He graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1950 and worked as a logger. He also worked at a sawmill until he was drafted into the Army in 1952.
Mr. Morice married Avis R. Wheeler in 1953, and they were stationed in Alaska for two years. After his honorable discharge in 1955, they moved to Moses Lake.
He worked as a system technician for area telephone companies. In the 1960s he built their home at Sunset Acres in Moses Lake.
Mr. Morice worked for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph as a lineman and specialized in residential phone systems for many years. In the early 1980s he transferred to American Telephone & Telegraph and continued his work in business phone systems.
He transferred again in 1990 to N.C.C.I. and worked there until ill health forced him to retire in 1991.
He was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church (now the Free Methodist Church) and was active with the Japanese ministries of the church for many years. As a young man, he worked with the youth of junior high and senior high ages.
He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers and worked in a fair booth for the organization.
Survivors include his wife, at the home; two daughters, Diana S. Morice of Moses Lake and Barbara Ann Mershon of northern Japan; two sons, Mathew P. Morice and Jay A. Morice, both of Moses Lake; a brother, Donald Morice of Bonners Ferry; a sister, Annabelle Finley of Kettle Falls, Wash.; two half-sisters, Charlotte Hagen of Falls Church, Va., and Violet Best of Spokane; and five grandsons.
