Reed Lowe Hart, 95, passed away August 2, 2001 in Sandy.

He was born on December 15, 1905 to Arthur William and Ada Doney Hart in Preston, Idaho. Reed married Letha Gilbert on November 19, 1928 in the Salt Lake Temple. He attended Utah State University.

Early in life Reed began running marathons. He won first place in 1925 in the City Creek Canyon Race. He took pride in the fact that his record never has been broken, because the race in later years was canceled.

He is a published author. He has uplifted friends and relatives with his creative thoughts for many years.

He was a most accomplished banjo player and loved to entertain with his Dixieland style. He and his brothers and sisters had a band that traveled in Utah, Idaho and Wyoming playing for dances.

He was an accountant for Utah Power and Light and the U & I Sugar Factory. In 1948 he came to Salt Lake to join his brothers at Hart Brothers Music.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather; finding his greatest joy in his 40 great-grandchildren.

He was bishop of the Preston, Idaho Sixth Ward and has served faithfully throughout his life in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a very strong testimony of Jesus Christ.

As a final epitaph, he wrote in his journal "If I could die in my sleep I would be the happiest person alive," and so he went peacefully.

He is survived by Daughters: LaRee Sieverts (Jack) and Nancy Ann Clark (Steve). Brothers A.W. (Mickey), Jed, Newt, Bret; Sisters: Ada, Rhea, Adina, Evadyna, Arlette, Elna, Hermoine, Jocelyn.
