Ada Hart Shumway, 102, of Idaho Falls, died September 22, 2023.

She was born August 25, 1921 at Preston, Idaho to Arthur William and Ada Lowe Hart. Her immediate family consisted of nine brothers and one sister. She also had three half brothers and seven half sisters who were as dear to her as her own siblings. She grew up going to the movies at the local movie theater which she thoroughly enjoyed. She attended schools in Preston and eventually graduated from Preston High School. She later graduated from LDS Business College in Salt Lake City.

During World War II, she worked at Insurance Equitable Life, Freed Motor Company and Remington Arms in Salt Lake City and Utah Depot in Ogden, Utah.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a Relief Society President, Relief Society teacher, Primary Pianist, and various other callings throughout her life. She served an LDS mission to the Central States Mission and later at the Family History Center in Salt Lake City.

She married Charles Hymas Shumway in Logan, Utah LDS Temple on March 18, 1946. As a married couple, they lived in Treasureton and then moved to Woodville, Idaho where they raised eight children on a farm.

With her husband, they served as co-presidents of the P.T.A. She worked as a teacher's aide in the Shelley School District for many years. She graduated from Brigham Young University in the College of Humanities in 1983 when she was 62 years old.

After the death of her husband, she moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho. She enjoyed traveling, and attending jazz festivals with friends. She enjoyed listening to music, especially jazz, watching good movies, reading, playing the piano and organ, and playing cards with her family. She enjoyed her line-dancing classes which she attended until the beginning of the pandemic. She mailed birthday cards to all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren even up to the time of her death.

She is survived by four daughters and four sons, Anne (Ron), Charles Brent (Jan), Kirt (Julie), Karen (Val), Lee (Dawn), Laurie (Mark), Janeen (Kris), and Ken (Cynthia); a brother, Bret Hart, and a half-sister, Jocelyn Faux; 33 grandchildren and 90 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, and many brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2023 at the Woodville First Ward Chapel. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 till 7:30 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home and Saturday morning from 9:30 till 10:40 at the church. Burial will be in Woodville Cemetery.
