Marion T. McCarthy, 94, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2016 after a long illness. She was a lifelong resident of Syracuse and the daughter of Hugh P. McCarthy and Gertrude (Quinlan) McCarthy, proprietors of P.R. Quinlan, the first retail florist in Syracuse. In addition to her parents, Marion was predeceased by her six sisters and two brothers. Miss McCarthy was a graduate of St. Anthony of Padua High School and received a certificate as a Certified Professional Secretary, highest award in that field. She also attended Syracuse University and Le Moyne College. Marion worked as an assistant to a number of prominent executives and legislators. She was twice named Secretary of the Year by the Syracuse chapter of the National Secretaries Association and once won the national title from that association. She ultimately retired as executive secretary to the president of Farmers & Traders Life Insurance Company. A communicant of Holy Cross Church for over 50 years, Miss McCarthy's greatest joy was her time spent singing with the parish choir. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, Dewitt. Mass will be followed immediately by an opportunity for friends and family to meet and remember Marion. Burial will at the convenience of the family at St. Agnes Cemetery, Syracuse. Arrangements are with Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel.
