Harold E. Bartlow, age 83, of Sodus Township, Lyon County, passed away at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton on Sunday, September 12, 1999. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 16, 1999 at the Hamilton-Birk Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Balaton.
Visitation will be 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a 8:15 p.m. prayer service Wednesday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue at the funeral home Thursday until the time of service.
Harold Eugene Bartlow was born to Wesley Miles and Sarah Ellen (Rockwell) Bartlow on August 16, 1916 in Lake Marshall Township, Lyon County, Minnesota. He attended school in Amiret and Milroy, and baptized at the Milroy Presbyterian Church in 1927.
On November 24, 1937, Harold was united in marriage to Marion Margaret Cravens. Marion passed away on August 31, 1943. On October 4, 1944, Harold and Tena Reka DeVries were married at the Lyon County Courthouse. Harold farmed near Amiret and Hendricks and then operated the grocery store in Lynd.
Moving to Russell he worked for Shorty Morrell and Louis Nuese. In 1955 he purchased a farm in Sodus Township and farmed until he retired in 1978. Tena passed away on October 9, 1990. Harold entered the Tracy Nursing Home on January 7, 1999. He then moved in to the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in July.
He is survived by five children: Gerald of Balaton, Darwin (Theresa) of Balaton, Douglas of Newton, Iowa, Joyce (Mark) Sik of Marshall, and Allen of Marshall; six grandchildren, Mark, Sheila, Denny, Sarah, Jeff and Angela; a sister, Alice Cahow of Tracy; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Marion and Tena; four brothers, Ernest, Wayne, Manley and Duffy; and two sisters, Cleo Kor and Fern Bartlow.
