BIOGRAPHY: LOIS MARIE (ROBERTS) ORENDOFF, MANERA

Lois Marie Roberts was the only child and daughter of Wallace and Ethel Taylor Roberts, born February 12, 1935 in Tacoma, Washington. Lois was raised and lived her life in Tacoma.

Lois' father died when she was 13 years of age. Being of the depression years, her paternal grandmother Beulah Alexander Roberts also lived with or next to them, and helped to raise Lois while her mother Ethel looked for work.

Lois interest and hobby was a musical one. As a child, she would often play the piano during worship service at a small church. She loved the vibraharp and marimba; and always had one in the home. Lois was also talented in Home Design and Decorating. Later as an adult, she again played the vibraharp in the evening services at Pastor Don Rodgney's church in Tacoma.

Lois was always described as a 'china doll' with blue eyes, coal black hair and a flawless complexion. With that, she dressed with high fashion, finding clothes from discount stores that even actresses wore in films!

On September 19, 1952, Lois married Sidney A. Orendoff (Algernon Sidney Orndorff, III) in Tacoma. They were married 12 years and raised one daughter Linda.

Lois married Joseph Maurice Manera twice: March 14, 1964 in Tacoma, Washington (Port Orchard, Kitsap County); separated and remarried August 7, 1981 Tacoma, WA (license issued in Thurston County). Lois and Joe raised one daughter together, Laureen. (While separated, Lois almost married another man, but decided at the wedding ceremony against it.)

Lois loved the city of Chicago, Illinois. Her husband, Sidney moved the family there temporarily in search of work; and she went back to visit twice more, staying with Joe's sister, Eileen. She would study everything she could on Chicago; and when she visited, knew more about Chicago and the sites than her sister-in-law that lived there.

After being widowed in 1990, Lois and her daughter Laureen made their life together during her cancer and subsequent blindness. They moved to Kennewick, Washington to be closer to Lois’ first daughter Linda in 2005, residing there until her death August 18, 2009. Lois leaves behind two daughters, Laureen and Linda, son-in-law Jerry, and three grand-children Penny, Gary and Cecilia.

Lois' only fear of dying was dying in darkness as she was now blind from the cancer in the brain and macular degeneration. The day before she passed, she started telling us what she was seeing in a very detailed and lucid manner, answering our questions or talking about memories; she was closer to heaven than earth at that point and was looking at 'Bright Light and Beauty all around'! She even knew when 'she was leaving and was going to be there tomorrow', which she did! There is comfort knowing she is in Heaven with her Lord and Savior and we will be reunited again. Written by her two daughters.

After her death, her eye's were donated to Sight Life to help another person to see.
