He and Boies went hunting a lot, one time Charles was mauled by a bear, he had to tell Boies what to do, after attending to him Boies threw him on his horse and rode top speed to get him to the hospital thus saving his life but he was left with scars on his face and body. He was a surgeon in Wyoming cattle war where he was brought up on murder charges, the charges were dismissed and he returned to Philadelphia in 1892 to marry Katherine Drexel. He died of a heart attack returning home from South Carolina by train.
