Roy Alvin Brog passed away on March 20, 2016. He was born August 6, 1930 in Freedom, Wyoming to Swiss immigrants, Ernest Brog and Martha Kaufman Brog. The midwife who attended his home birth received payment of $5.00 for her services. Roy was taught to make Swiss cheese in his youth and worked many years at the Star Valley Swiss Cheese Factory. In high school he became a champion boxer and loved speed racing in his black Oldsmobile.
Roy married Joan Nelson in 1950 and together they traveled to Switzerland where Roy attended cheese making school. After his return to the states he continued his education receiving a master’s degree in Dairy Manufacturing with minors in bacteriology and chemistry. Roy was blessed with a keen mind and enjoyed lifelong learning. He was an inventor and scientist and owns rights to several patents. He made the first edible food grade whey powder here in the West. Roy’s atypical sense of humor assured his presence at any event. He brightened each day and entertained always.
Roy enjoyed his membership in the LDS church and served in many capacities from home teacher to Bishop to Temple Worker. He took the huge responsibility of keeping accurate genealogy records for his immediate and extended family. Roy loved to banter church doctrine with the goal of teaching and enlightening others. He loved his Heavenly Father and his Savior, Jesus Christ. His hours of service and righteous living blessed him with many sacred experiences with the Holy Ghost.
Roy is the father to seven children, Blake Nelson (Holly Thompson), Sue Ann (Robert Balls), Vrena Lee (Craig Flint). Daniel Roy (Debra Dee Lusk), Kenneth Clair (Vicki Steele), John Niklaus (Wendy Carter), and Koz Nathan (Cari Toone). He enjoyed his sixteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Meeting him at the other side of the veil will be his parents, a son-in-law, Craig William Flint, and a grandson, Nathan William Flint, three bothers, Paul Ern Brog, Frank Ernest Brog and Larry Ralph Brog, along with sisters, Gayle Clara Rigler and Ora Hilda Porter.
Many thanks and deepest appreciation to Roy’s dear wife, Joan, who has been his loyal care taker and rock for many years as Roy has suffered the debilitating effects of Parkinson’s disease. The Roy Brog family thank all those who helped us with his loving care.
