Richard Abel Sr., 71, 6300 Birch St., Schofield, died Monday Nov. 28, 1994, at the Wausau Hospital, Wausau. He was born Nov. 30, 1922 in Rothschild, son of the late Leon and Angeline (Bloczinski) Abel. He married Janet G. (Blarek) Pierschalla on May 23, 1970, in Schofield. She survives. Richard was an employee of Weyerhaeuser Corp., Rothschild, for 33 years, retiring in 1974. He was a 28-year member and former fire chief of the Rothschild Fire Department, retiring in 1972. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II serving in the South Pacific. Survivors besides his wife, Janet, include, three sons, Richard Jr. (Jean) Abel, Denver, Colo., John (Lucy) Abel, Townsend, Del., and Michael (Malinda) Abel, Ringle; five daughters, Cheryl (Robert) Baumgardt, Weyawega, Mary Abel, Milwaukee, Peggy (Richard) Raasch, Rothschild, Connie (John) Roselius, Stevens Point, Jennifer Tiangco, Lake Forrest, Calif.; one stepson, John (Brenda) Pierschalla, Mosinee; one stepdaughter, Elaine (James) Wysocki, Schofield; 22 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Rose Ruder, Warland, Wyo., Joyce Higley, Ames, and Beverly Yirkowski, Mosinee. He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Bob Litzer; a sister, Leone Barter; and a brother, Henry Abel. Funeral services will be at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, 1994, at Peterson Funeral Home, Wausau. The Rev. Alan Slowiak will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Visitation will be from 3:30 p.m. Thursday until the time of services at the funeral home, and again after services until 6:30 p.m.
