Cherokee Daily Times - October 1, 1970 - John C "Jack" Gulling, 79, died in Cherokee Wednesday noon at the Hilltop Nursing Home where he had made his home for the past two years.
Born on Oct 3, 1890 at Vandalia to Mr and Mrs Edward Gulling, he farmed and worked as a farmhand mostly in Buena Vista County. At one time he operated the restaurant known as Sheleys Hamburgers. He was member of the Storm Lake IOOF No 221.
Survivors are one son, Lloyd of Cherokee, three sisters: Mrs Lettie Sellman of Sibley, Mrs Sarah Oxford, Monoham, TX, and Mrs Allie Cattermole of Storm Lake; one grandchild, Mrs Gary Woltman; and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elsie in 1920 and a 2nd wife, Esther in May 1968, his parents; one son, Ralph, during childhood; one brother and one sister.
Services will be held 2 pm Saturday from the Greenwood Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery.
