Edward was the son of Celestine Gulling and Sarah Maudreu. He married Emma Sutcliffe on Feb 2, 1887 in Des Moines, IA. They were the parents of Lettie Mae, John Celestine, Bessie Pearl, Charles Edward, Sarah Ethel "Sadie" (Peck, Yell, Oxford), and Allie Marie.

Storm Lake Pilot-Tribune - August 7, 1952 page 1 - E.S. Gulling, 85, of Linn Grove, passed away Tuesday evening at his home following several years of ill health. He resided in Storm Lake until about 5 years ago when he and his wife moved to Linn Grove. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in February of this year.

He is survived by his wife, four daughters, and one: Mrs Lettie Corbin of Worthington, MN; J.C. Gulling of Storm Lake; Mrs. Earl Jenson of Linn Grove; Mrs. J.S. Yell of Imperial, Texas; and Mrs. Jesse Cattermole of Storm Lake.

A son, Charles, passed away several years ago.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon. Interment will be in the Storm Lake cemetery.
