John was born Oct. 9, 1916, in Whitewright to John Morton Ashinhurst and Eula Henderson Ashinhurst. He graduated from Whitewright High School and served in the United States Army during World War II with tours in Iceland, England, France and the U.S. He received the EAME Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars and the American Defense Service Medal.
John married Gladys Gosnell on March 31, 1945, in Fort Worth. He was employed as an experimental machinist for LTV.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, on Jan. 10, 2003.
Survivors: Daughters, Pat Burgess and her husband, Lane, of Olney, Donna Shults of Arlington, and Janet Carson and her husband, Steve, of Arlington; grandchildren, Jamie Kulhanek, Shelly De La Garza and Lesli Stroud; great-grandchildren, Nic Stroud, Coby Stroud, Jordan De La Garza, Olivia Kulhanek and Peyton Kulhanek; great-great-grandchild, Cammron De La Garza; and brothers, John Lindy Ashinhurst and Vernon Ashinhurst.
