Alvin was the 3rd child born to Edward Carter Cox and Sophronia (Brown) Cox. He was the twin brother to Alvery Cox. On June 10, 1907, Alvin married Dianthia Gardner, daughter of George and Helen Gardner. The 1910 U.S. Census indicates that they lived in Edmunds. Alvin was 35 (in 1910), Dianthia was 19, and their first daughter, Bertha May Cox, was only 5 months old having been born on November 20, 1909. On April 12, 1911 their 2nd daughter, Evelyn D. Cox, was born. However, several days later on April 30, 1911 Dianthia died at the age of 20. By the time of the 1920 U.S. Census Alvin (46) and his two daughters (10 and 8) were living with Alvin’s father, Edward Cox(71), and step-mother Mary Cox(67). Mary Cox died in 1922, so when the 1930 U.S. Census took place there was only Edward (81), Alvin (55), Bertha (20), and Evelyn (18) living at the house in Edmunds. Edward died in August 1933 and Bertha married Milton Chester Cox on November 7, 1936. At the time of the 1940 U.S. Census, Alvin (now 66) was still living in his parents’ house with his younger daughter, Evelyn (age 29). However, Evelyn had married Harland Foss on June 4, 1938, so Harland (age 29) was living there, too. Harland enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 13, 1943 and he was killed in action in Europe. He was buried in the U.S. Military Cemetery in Epinal, France. Evelyn later married Leroy Brown. Evelyn died in 1987. Alvin died in 1959 at the age of 85. They were all buried in South Edmunds Cemetery except for Bertha and her husband.
