Sweet Mother-in-law ~ Almeta May Herridge Huntley-Fortmeyer passed away November 11, 2015 in Wellington, Kansas at the age of 85 years, 6 months and 26 days.

Almeta May Herridge was the beautiful daughter and seventh born of eight children born on April 16, 1930 to James "Jim" Walter Herridge and Eva Lydia Huston Herridge of Bluff City, Kansas.

Almeta had five sisters and two brothers; Jennie Louise Herridge, Bessie Evalene Herridge (Wilmarth), Ruth Helen Herridge (Snyder), Dorothy Edith Herridge, Maurice Herridge, Juanita Clara Herridge (Hudson) and Cecil Herridge.

Almeta attended grade school at Bluff City, Kansas and graduated from Bluff City High School in 1948 as valedictorian of her class. Soon after graduating high school she moved to Liberal, Kansas and worked as a secretary.

On May 26, 1951, Almeta married the love of her life, Nolan Leroy Huntley at the First Christian Church in Ponca City, Oklahoma.

Nolan and Almeta made their home on a farm in rural Grant County Oklahoma where they raised beef cattle, wheat and at one time had over one hundred Shetland ponies.

Nolan and Almeta had two sons; Doug and Tim

Almeta's beloved Nolan passed away March 7, 1975 from cancer.

Almeta loved life, loved traveling on long trips with her sister-in-law Esther Huntley Knox. She loved growing beautiful flowers, bowling, going to the beauty shop every week, and we knew weekends was not a good time to call and talk because of golf, football and basketball. But most of all she loved her family and friends.

She was such a precious lady, loving, caring and compassionate. Always very neat and particular in her appearance and her family's appearance....it's who she was.

On February 19, 1977, Almeta was united in marriage to Leon Fortmeyer.

Almeta was a member of the Caldwell United Methodist Church and a member of the Evening Circle of Caldwell Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her parents, late husband Nolan Huntley, five sisters and two brothers.

She leaves behind her husband of 38 years, Leon Fortmeyer.

She will always be loved, missed and cherished by her sons; Doug Huntley and wife Pixie of Danville, Kansas and Tim Huntley and wife Karisa of Mulvane, Kansas.

Five grandchildren; Matt Huntley, Zach Huntley, Tricia Huntley (Flinn), Bryce Huntley and Kale Huntley.
Four great-grandchildren; Taelyn Huntley, Emma Grace Huntley, Thomas J. Huntley and Channing Williams.
