Mary (Pigott) was born in Bedford Co., Pennsylvania, in c1795, the daughter of George Pigott & Mary (Lemasters). She spent the early years of her life in Pennsylvania.


Mary (Pigott) came to Harrison County, (W.) Virginia, with her family about 1809, and here she grew to womanhood.


Miss Mary (Piggott) married Aaron Shinn in Harrison Co., (W.) Virginia, on May 22, 1811, at the age of about sixteen [Harrison County marriage bond dated 05/21/1811].


After their marriage, Mary & her 1st husband, Aaron Shinn, lived in Harrison Co., (W.) Virginia, where their first 8 children were born.

Her husband, Aaron Shinn, died on Arnolds Creek, then Tyler Co., (W.) Virginia, in the winter of 1839-1840, and he was buried in the Pigott Cemetery on Arnolds Creek, but his gravestone can no longer be found today.


Mary Shinn is listed on the mid 1840 Tyler Co., (W.) Virginia, census as head of her household with the following: 2 males 5-10 (W. Jehu & David A.), 1 male 15-19 (Josiah H.), 1 male 20-29 (George W.), 1 female 10-14 (Emily J.), 1 female 15-19 (Sarah Ellen), 1 female age 20-29 (Eliza), 1 female 40-49 (Mary) [next door to Abraham Bogard & family]


The area of the farm on Arnolds Creek became Doddridge Co., (W.) Virginia, when this new county was formed in February 1845.


At the age of about fifty-two, Mary remarried to Robert Childers, a widow, in Doddridge Co., (W.) Virginia, on March 9, 1847.


Mary Childers (age 54, F, B-PA) is listed on the 1850 Doddridge Co., (W.) Virginia, census with her 2nd husband, Robert Childers (age 70, M, B-Va., Farmer), and her children: Josiah H. Shinn-28, William J. Shinn-18, and David A. Shinn-14 (all kids B-Va.) #306-289 (Robert & Mary both cannot read & write by census)


Mary (Pigott) Shinn-Childers died in Doddridge Co., (W.) Virginia, in c1851, and she is buried in the Pigott Cemetery on Arnolds Creek near Central Station, Doddridge Co., W. Va., near her 1st husband, but her gravestone can no longer be found in recent years.


After Mary's death, her second husband, Robert Childers Sr, a widow, remarried to Mrs. Sarah (Tasher) Wilson in Harrison Co., (W) Virginia, on December 24, 1854
