Aaron Shinn was born near Shinnston, Monongalia Co., (W.) Virginia, in 1782, son of Levi Shinn Sr. and Elizabeth (Smith). The area of his birth became part of Harrison Co., (W.) Virginia, when this new county was formed in May 1784 where he grew to adulthood.

Aaron Shinn died during the winter in c. February 1840 on Arnolds Creek in then Tyler Co., (W.) Virginia, from a fever according to his grand-daughter, Edith Shinn Chaney (as recorded by her in a family history), & he was buried in the Pigott Cemetery on Arnolds Creek, but his gravestone can no longer be found today.
