Roy Mitchell Baxter, Sr.,74, passed away Friday, September 25, 2015 in the St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah. He was a native and lifelong resident of Long County. He was retired as a mechanic from civil service at Ft. Stewart with 31 years of service and a member of Grace Baptist Church in Long County. His son, Roy Baxter, Jr. preceded him in death. Survivors are his wife, Lee Baxter; daughters and sons-in-law, Rachel and Steven Moore and Hope and David Newell; son, Brad Baxter, all of Ludowici; grandchildren, Nicholas Moore, Devin Newell, Garrett Baxter, and Brett Baxter; several nieces and nephews also survive. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 1-3 P.M. at the Howard Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Sunday, September 27 at 3:30 P.M. at the Grace Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Robert Long and Elder Thomas Kelly officiating. Pallbearers will be Eric Moody, David Baxter, Tom Frye, Don Phillips, J.L. Westberry, and Mike Fuller.
