Roy Mitchell Baxter, Sr.,74, passed away Friday, September 25, 2015 in the St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah. He was a native and lifelong resident of Long County. He was retired as a mechanic from civil service at Ft. Stewart with 31 years of service and a member of Grace Baptist Church in Long County. His son, Roy Baxter, Jr. preceded him in death. Survivors are his wife, Lee Baxter; daughters and sons-in-law, Rachel and Steven Moore and Hope and David Newell; son, Brad Baxter, all of Ludowici; grandchildren, Nicholas Moore, Devin Newell, Garrett Baxter, and Brett Baxter; several nieces and nephews also survive. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 1-3 P.M. at the Howard Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Sunday, September 27 at 3:30 P.M. at the Grace Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Robert Long and Elder Thomas Kelly officiating. Pallbearers will be Eric Moody, David Baxter, Tom Frye, Don Phillips, J.L. Westberry, and Mike Fuller. Remembrance are suggested to Grace Baptist Church, 136 Grace Baptist Church Road NE, Ludowici, GA 31316.
