BETSY ANN MULVAIN
The death of Mrs. Joseph Mulvain occurred last Friday shortly afternoon at the home of her daughter Mrs. Lemuel Lower at San Pierre, with whom she has made her home for the past twenty years. On Friday morning Mrs. Mulvain was taken suddenly sick at the breakfast table and died at 12:30 in the afternoon.
Betsy Ann Wynegar was past 81 years of age, having been born March 18, 1826 in Highland county, Ohio, where she spent childhood and youth, being one of nine children.
On January 14, 1845, she was married to Joseph Mulvain to which union eleven children were born, five of whom are living, three girls and two boys, Alice Baker of Ulysses, Nebraska; Minerva Lower of San Pierre, Mrs. J. A. Tomlinson and William Mulvain of North Judson; and Milton Mulvain of Walla Walla, Washington. Three of her children were at her bedside at the time of her death, Mrs. Lower, Mrs. Tomlinson and William Mulvain. Joseph Mulvain, her husband, died July 5, 1900 at Ulysses, Nebraska. Besides the above named children left to mourn her loss is a twin brother, Peter G. Wynegar of Belle Fountaine, Ohio who together with a nephew, Corydine Hoskins of Richmond, Ohio, were here to attend the funeral.
The death of Mrs. Mulvain removes another of the early and respected pioneers of this community, having resided near San Pierre for the past 46 years. Of the early Buckeye settlers of this community only one or two remain.
Deceased was a faithful and loved member of the Methodist Episcopal church, having joined that church at the age of seventeen. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at San Pierre, Sunday afternoon, May 12, conducted by Rev. J. O. Johnson of North Judson. Interment was made in the San Pierre cemetery.
