HOUSTON HERALD
MARCH 30, 1950

James Edward Wallace, son of William and Martha Wallace, was born April 22, 1864, at Carlyle, Indiana, and departed this life March 22, 1950, making his age at the time of death 85 years and 11 months.

At about the age of 16 years he came with his parents to Missouri and has spent the remainder of his life in and around Houston.

He was married to Lawson Belle Baird on November 26, 1885. God blessed this union with 7 children. His wife and two children preceded him in death: Viola Agnes who died in infancy, and Anna Holt, who was killed in an explosion in 1946. The remaining children are: Bessie Davis, Churchill Wallace, Pearl Birkhead, and Theta Freese all of Houston, and Florence Gilmore of Springfield.

At an early age he gave his heart to God and united with the Freewill Baptist Church. This church dissolved and May 9, 1908 he joined the Central Baptist Church. He remained a member of this church until his death, having been an active member until sickness prevented.

On July 2, 1936 he was married to Oma Kirkwood.

Left to mourn his going are his wife, 5 children, 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Rose Brown of Raymondville and Mrs. Rhoda Wilson, of Springfield, a host of other relatives and friends uncountable.

Thus has come to an end the life of another grand old soldier of the Cross. But his life and influence will live on and on in the hearts and memories of those who know and love him.

Funeral services were Friday afternoon, March 24, at the Central Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Milton Elmore, assisted by Rev. Kirby Fletcher. His five grandsons: Willard and Chester Davis, Robert Wallace, Artford Freese, Jr., and Wayne Birkhead; and one grandson-in-law, Howard Abbott, acted as pallbearers. Interment was in the Central Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Elliott's.
