Semore YORK, Sr. is the eighth child of twelve born to John YORK Sr. and his wife Martha Jane WHITE. Semore YORK, Sr. is the grandson of Semore YORK I and his wife Sylvania L ALDRIDGE. This family information is based on U S Census records, Wills, cemetery visits and personal interviews in the 1970's. Much data was provided by some of the great grandchildren and descendants of Semore YORK, Sr. living in the Franklinville and Ramseur area of Randolph County, North Carolina.

NOTE: This Semore YORK has been previously identified as Semore John YORK, Sr. to indicate he is the Semore YORK, Sr. of John YORK his father. As of 1 November 2020 I am removing the middle name of John which may have been only a method to identify him differently, because there were multiple Semore YORK men.

Semore YORK, Sr. age twenty one was married on 14 Apr 1826 to Bethany POWELL, age fifthteen in Randolph County, North Carolina.

Sudie MANER of Franklinville was the daughter of John MANER, son of Sidney MANER and Susan YORK. According to great granddaughter Sudie MANER, age 82, in an August 1974 interview her great grandfather Semore YORK had an appetite for alcohol and not much work. According to Randolph County Court records Bethany POWELL divorced Semore John YORK in the Spring of 1845. Sudie told that he was asked to leave. Semore is not found in the 1850 Census. He left his family for about twenty years between the 1860 and 1880 US Census years. Sudie remembered he went south to live with his son John YORK in Scotland County, North Carolina and Milton YORK in Richmond County, North Carolina near the South Carolina state line. By the 1880 census her great grandfather Semore York returned to Randolph County to live in their home, Sidney and Susan Manner in the deep river village of Franklinville. Semore YORK, Sr. died in 1885 according to his estate papers and is buried in the Franklinville United Methodist Church Cemetery. No Tombstone was found in 1974, only a depression in the lawn of a grave site.

Seymore "Simmer" YORK born in 1804 son of Nathaniel YORK Sr. and his wife Mary Anne CULBERSON is often confused with his first cousin, once removed, Semore YORK, Sr. born in 1805 son of John YORK and his wife Martha WHITE. They enjoyed the same grandparents, Semore YORK and Sylvania L. ALDRIDGE.
