Willard J. Herrman, 80, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born April 2, 1928, to Anton J. and Agnes (Kreutzer) Herrman in LaCrosse.

He married Helen Ann Rukavina Jan. 21, 1948, in Bowers Hill, Va. She died May 13, 1992. He married Alene (Brunson) Calder Feb. 13, 1993, in Liberal. She survives.

He graduated in 1946 from LaCrosse High School and then served in the U. S. Army from March 1947 – Aug 1948. He was a retired foreman with Beech Aircraft Corp. having worked for 35 years. From 1958-1980, he served the City of Liberal as a volunteer firefighter. He was also a transportation coordinator for Andrade Auto Exchange.

He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 3381 and a 46-year member of the Elks Lodge No. 1947, all of Liberal. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and spending time with family and friends.

Other survivors include three sons, Willard John Herrman Jr. and wife, Marilyn, Wichita, Tony Herrman and wife, Becky, Liberal, and Jeff Herrman and fiancé, Kim Witzke, Charleston, W.Va.; one stepdaughter, Connie Gent and husband, Frank, Beloit; one brother, Maynard Herrman and wife, Luella, Hays; two sisters, Florina Roth, Liberal, and Francis Ridler and husband, Max, Hays; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter

He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gerome Herrman and Herbert Herrman , two sisters, Olinda Igo and Mary Herrman , and one grandson, Easton Herrman.

Rosary and vigil will be at 6 p.m. today at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father James P. Dieker presiding. Burial will follow at Liberal Cemetery with military honors by American Legion. Friends may call until 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
