April 2, 1970
Funeral services for Mrs. Alma Blanche Hill were held Tuesday, March 24, at the Hendricks Capel, Rev. James Crow, pastor of the first Baptist church, officiated at the 10 a.m. services. Song selections of "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Abide With Me" were sung by Mr. and Mrs. Milton Sharp. organist was Merna Carlin. Casket bearers were R. B. Smithe, Glenn Weaver, Ira Barnhart, Wilford Albertson, Denzel Barnhart and terry James.
Burial was in St.. John's Cemetery in Idalia. Alma Blanche Hill was born July 4, 1890 at Hale. She departed this life at the Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital on Saturday, March 21, at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 17 days.
All of her young life was spent in Kit Carson and Yuma Counties. On Dec. 19, 1906 she was united in marriage to Grover Hill at Burlington. One son was born to this union hand he died at birth.
In 1919 she and her husband moved to Weld County and later Greeley where they were living when her husband passed away on July 9, 1956. She continued living in Greeley until Aug. 17, 1967, when she returned to Burlington, and made her home with her sister Martha J. Smith. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Smith, several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friend
St. John's Evangelical Cemetery, near Idalia, CO is not listed in Find a Grave. In 1970, a friend was laid to rest there, Mrs. Alma Blanch Hill. I was away in the military and lost track of her. The cemetery is very close to a town that I plan to visit again this summer. I will go to take photos of this small and very old cemetery to post here. I have often passed by this cemetery, about a quarter mile away when traveling to Bird City KS for a threshing show.
Mrs. Hill was my pinochle partner for many years in the late 50's and early 60's. She lived next door to my family and came over often for dinner. She ALWAYS brought something to contribute to the meal, even it was only a can of soup. It has taken years for me to find her and I did so on the "Billion Graves Index."
I am pleased to honor Mrs. Hill (as she liked to be called, even though her husband of many years was deceased). She was a great card player; played by the rules, and was always pleasant to me... This was a very long time ago in Greeley, CO and finding her place of interment has renewed many pleasant memories for me. Mrs. Hill as a young girl, came to Colorado in a covered wagon...Now that is real history. Ron Lewis
