Eleanor Octavia King Allen was born in 1855 in Mississippi, USA. She was a child of Dr. Addison McGhee King and Eleanor M. Estelle King. She was one of nine children in the family.

She married her first husband John W. Kirkpatrick on 30 Jan 1872 at the age of 17 in Ashley County, AR. John Kirkpatrick died about 1876.

She married Christopher Columbus Allen, Sr. on 27 Jul 1876 at the age of 21 in Ashley County, AR. They had two children, Estelle E. Allen and Benjamin Wade Allen I.

During her lifetime she experienced the Civil War, invention of the telephone and the electric light bulb.
