Funeral services for Jack Mansel Smith, age 76, of Oak Grove, La will be 2PM, Friday, May 1, 2015, at Cox Funeral Home with Dr. Joe McKeever and Rev. Paul Ninemire officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Grove City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday from 5PM - 9PM at Cox Funeral Home.

Jack grew up and attended school in Oak Grove, La. After serving 2 years in the Army, he returned home, went to work at the old Monroe Morning World in the Advertising Department and married Marian Davis. They had two daughters, Julie and Cynthia. He later worked for two other LA newspapers, but then in 1965, he moved his young family to Greenville, MS and began working at the Delta Democrat Times in Advertising. It was in Greenville, MS that Jack gave his heart to Jesus and became a new creation (II Corinthians 5:17). Shortly, he was hired by Lewis Grocer Company/SuperValu in Indianola, MS, and spent the majority of his career there as Advertising Director before retiring in 1995. He commuted between Greenville and Indianola for many years and moved to Indianola for about 8 years before taking an early retirement. Jack loved hunting, and he enjoyed serving in various capacities in his church.

Upon his retirement, Jack and Marian then returned to Oak Grove to care for Marian's aging parents. Retirement didn't work for him, and he started Delta Advertising Productions to provide advertising services to two grocery store chains serving Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi. He worked there until illness incapacitated him in February of this year.

Jack is preceded in death by his father and mother, W. E. and Betty Smith, sisters Estus Smith, Doris Vining, Hilda (Tookie) Hankins, Lela Smith, and Marjorie (Skeeter) Lewis, and a brother Steve Smith.

He is survived by his wife Marian, daughters Julie Smith Evans and Cynthia Smith Ozer, grandchildren Merianna Evans, Eliyah Ozer, and Yaakov Ozer.

He is also survived by brothers, John Wesley Smith and Tom G. (Skippy) Smith and a sister JoAnn Hankins, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
