AUGUST WEGNER

August Wegner was born in Germany, May 8th, 1864. At the age of two years he came to America with his parents, they locating near Nicollet, Minn., in Brown county. Leaving Nicollet, his parents moved onto a homestead west of Sanborn, where the deceased grew to manhood. While still a young man, he was converted and united with the Evangelical church, which membership he has retained always. On June 4th, 1885, he was united in marriage with Miss Wilhelmina Juhnke, who preceded him in death, just two years ago. After his marriage the young couple lived on a farm, three miles south-east of Lamberton, until 1914, when they moved to town where he since resided, making his home with his son Ervin the last two years. Five sons and three daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Wegner, one daughter dying in infancy. The children surviving are Herman of Clear Lake, S. Dak.; Edward of Fairbault; Otto of Sleepy Eye; Sadie of Sanborn; Ervin of Lamberton; Harry of Minneapolis, and Mabel of Sanborn. He also leaves to mourn his demise ten grand-children, two brothers and one sister.
For a number of years he was afflicted with several ailments and Sunday morning he complained of not feeling well, and his condition became serious. At 1:10 his spirit left its earthly abode. The news of his passing came as a great shock, as he had been working as usual the previous day.
Mr. Wegner was a prominent figure in years past, having held various township and school offices, and was much respected as a loving father and husband. His numerous friends will greatly miss his untimely passing, and his pleasing personality and sterling character as a fellow citizen, will long linger in the minds of all who learned to know him.
Funeral services were conducted from the home, and from the Evangelical church, Wednesday afternoon, Rev. G.A. Lippert, assisted by Rev. L.M. Adelmann conducting the sad rites. Two quartets brought consolation in song. The floral tributes were many and exceptionally beautiful, showing that he was held in high esteem.
He was laid to rest in the Lamberton cemetery, where he will await the resurrection call.
