Chas. Wegner Rites Held Saturday

Life-Long Resident of Charlestown Township Dies at Age of 70 Years

Chas. F. Wegner was born December 20, 1875 in Charlestown township, Lamberton, Minnesota, the youngest son of the late William and Sophia Wegner.
He reached the age of 70 years, four months and 10 days. He united with the Evangelical church of Germantown in his early years.
Twelve years ago, Mr. Wegner suffered a paralytic stroke and from that time on he was not in the best of health. However, he was able to be up and around until six years ago, February 1, when he was stricken with another severe paralytic stroke. He gradually became worse until just a week ago he was bed-ridden.
His faithful wife and family took very good care of him for all these years.
He entered the hospital at Springfield on Sunday evening and after two days he passed away to the great beyond at 1:35 Tuesday afternoon.
Mr. Wegner was much concerned in the welfare of his family and also very interested in civic and community affairs. He spent all his life as a farmer in this county.
On August 8, 1899, he was united in marriage to Minnie Werner. This union was blessed with two sons and two daughters. He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted and sorrowing wife and two sons and two daughters, namely Edna (Mrs. Bernie Schofield) Balaton; Oliver, at home; Inez (Mrs. Willard Gifford), Balaton; and Russell of Lamberton, and two grandchildren, Dale and Janet. His parents, three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 1:30 at the home and 2:00 at the Germantown Evangelical church of which he was a member. A male quartet consisting of Ben Matzke, Clarence Griese, Wilbur Juhnke and Robert Kissner, sang a number at the home, "Beautiful Land", and at the church, "Resting Now." A mixed quartet consisting of Mrs. Ben Matzke, Mrs. Milton Werner, Wilbur Juhnke and Clarence Griese, also sang two numbers at the church, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Til We Get Home." Miss Ramona Werner presided at the piano. Rev. Aaron J. Ljnk, pastor of the church officiated.
There were many beautiful memorial gifts in flowers and money.
The remains were carried to their last resting place in the family plot in the Lamberton cemetery by Levi Juhnke, Raymond Beyer, Roy Werner, Ervin Wegner, Orva Hoehne and Wesley Werner.
Relatives from a distance at the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wegner, Sleepy Eye; Mr. and Mrs. Dick Wegner and son, New Ulm; Mr. and Mrs. Otto Wegner, Sleepy Eye; Mr. and Mrs. Art Olson and family, Klossner; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Werner and Ralph, New Ulm; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Beyer, Redwood Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Luscher, Redwood Falls.
